There was no fourth individual Paralympic medal for Jonnie Peacock in Paris.

The Cambridge-born sprinter arrived in the French capital as a two-time Paralympic champion after victories in London and Rio de Janeiro were followed by a bronze medal at the previous games in Tokyo.

Yet there was no place on the podium on Tuesday evening for the 31-year-old, who despite making a fast start out of the blocks, could only finish fifth in the T64 100m final.

The animated Shepreth-raised athlete said in the mixed zone after the race: “I’m so frustrated. I did exactly what I wanted to do through around 50 (metres).

“I’m proud of the start, I felt so strong. It’s frustrating because 2017 Jonnie would have wiped the floor with all of them.

“I ran 10.64 slowing down (at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London) and that's what a lot of people seem to have forgotten.

“They count me out because they think these guys are fast, and they are fast. But 2017 Jonnie was very fast and that's the guy I need to find.”

The former Cambridge Regional College student, who will feature as part of the Team GB quartet for the 4x100m relay later this week, is also hoping to go again at the Los Angeles Games in 2028.

He added: “I’m definitely not (giving up). That’s what I mean. I know it’s there. My body isn’t tired yet.

“I want to go to the Los Angeles Games. And we still have the relay here – hopefully we’re not coming back empty handed.”
