Cambridge United youngster Dan Barton sidelined by knee injury sustained in 2-0 loss to Lincoln City

Cambridge United will have to make do without the services of Dan Barton for the next ‘eight to 10 weeks’ due to a knee injury.

In what has been a tough and winless start to the 2024/25 campaign for the U’s, the performances of the young attacking midfielder have been one of the few shining lights.

However, after the 19-year-old limped off towards the end of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Lincoln City, a subsequent scan has revealed the extent of the damage.

“Unfortunately for Barts – he’s been fantastic since he joined us in pre-season – he’s had a scan on his knee and he’s picked up a bit more of a serious injury than we would have hoped,” head coach Garry Monk told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

“The time diagnosis would be around eight to 10 weeks, which is a blow for us and a blow to him.

“He was contributing fantastically well this season. It’s unfortunate, but at least it’s a mid-serious one – it could have been longer term.”

Barton has joined the likes of Josh Stokes, Shayne Lavery, Kell Watts, Gary Gardner, George Thomas and Mamadou Jobe on the sidelines.
