Explosive device found on Mill Road in Cambridge
Police have reopened Mill Road bridge in Cambridge after closing it earlier today following the discovery of an explosive device.
Bomb disposal experts have been called to a residential address where a grenade has been found in a garden. A cordon has been placed around the address on Mill Road and police are recommending that the public stays away from the area.
A Cambridgeshire police spokesperson said: “We were called at about 3pm today (7 October) with reports of a grenade being found in a garden at a property in Mill Road, Cambridge. Police are at the scene and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have been called.”
“Cordons are currently in place, neighbouring properties have been evacuated and people are being advised to avoid the area.”
A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said that they were aware of the incident but that it was not impacting their rail services.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: "We are aware of the investigation being carried out by the police near Mill Road bridge. Currently, there is no disruption to train services, but we are working with the police and monitoring the situation closely. Passengers can check for journey updates at nationalrail.co.uk"
