Coel and Carter Jonas charity cricket match stumps up £28,000 for Phoenix Trust and LandAid
A charity cricket match between COEL and Carter Jonas at Fenner’s raised almost double the amount of last year.
The £28,000 stumped up will benefit national charity LandAid, which fights youth homelessness, and The Phoenix Trust, a local charity and social enterprise providing work experience for co-workers with a range of learning disabilities and special or complex needs.
The event on 6 June included an entertaining game, live music, food and drink stalls, and a guest appearance by former England bowler Devon Malcolm.
More than 850 people attended and also took part in a raffle and silent auction, while more sponsors also came on board.
The headline sponsors included Ascott Lloyd, The Gonville Hotel, Howes Percival, City Stay Group, Hive Group, Ensors, Tees Law, First Intuition, Liquidline, KMD Wealth Management and Stantec.
The main sponsors were Barnes Construction, Cam Alarms, Green Build Design, BDB Pitman, Grovemere Property, The Cambridge Building Society, Tom & Co, Duct Systems, Vizion Group of Companies, Cambridge Industrial Properties, Top Road, Howard Group, Excel Carpentry, Serpentine Estates LLP, and Hayfield Homes.
The Phoenix Trust held a tea party at its centre next to Milton Country Park to thank everyone.
COEL and Carter Jonas said: “The cricket day came about as a very informal idea which has grown beyond all our expectations.
“The contribution from the local business community has been exceptional. Thank you to all who have supported the day, we could not be more grateful.”
Carter Jonas won in 2023, but COEL triumphed in 2024, so there is all to play for next year.
